It was announced today by frontman Rob Fish that recently reunited hardcore band 108 are calling it quits...again. The band had broken up in the late 90's and reunited in 2005 and released a record on Deathwish Records entitled New Beat from a Dead Heart. I never heard it. I can't say that I was ever a huge fan, mostly due to the fact that I hate the krishna thing. But I have to admit that Threefold Misery is a fucking ripping record, as is Songs of Seperation. In the mid-90's, I probably was at about a dozen shows in which 108 played, but not once actually saw them. I was either not paying attention, buying records, outside bullshitting, or just left. I finally got to catch them for the first time last year at the Burning Fight festival in Chicago. Vic freaked me out. He was wearing running shorts that would have made Olivia Newton John blush. Not to mention, his overall look was reminiscent of a transsexual that used to roam the streets of the town that I grew up in. Anyway, I made sure to catch them. They were loud, chaotic, heavy, and impressive. They were good, and I decided that's how I wanted the memory to remain. And it appears it will. Rob released a statement on facebook of the break-up, stating something about how they are all best friends, he's not into Krishna anymore, personal exploration, and some other stuff I browsed over looking for drama. I didn't find anything. I decided to give you some 108 music to chant your mantras to.
By the way, can someone explain to me what the fuck Holyname is about? 43 minute record consisting of one track that has only like one song and 40 minutes of some 'shnas pounding on some drums. Ugh.
