As I recover from the news that those selfish bastards in the Pogues will not be doing any St. Patrick's Day shows in NYC this year, I came across a story that had me somewhat bewildered. Shane MacGowan, frontman of the Pogues and mythical character of drinking and drugging lore, took it upon himself to use his notoriety to recruit such big names as Johnny Depp, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, and the original Bad Seed himself Nick Cave to do a cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins timeless hit "I Put A Spell On You." Proceeds from the single will go directly to the Irish charity Concern Worldwide, which has been working in Haiti for over 16 years. See, Shane has a heart, as deteriorated as it may be.
